Excitement was in the air at the boarding gate for the inaugural Bonza flight from Melbourne to Tamworth on May 2nd. Passengers were buzzing, including groups of line dancers heading to the country capital of Australia. Check-in was a breeze, opening online 7 days before your flight through the Bonza app. The Bonza check-in area at Terminal 4 was quiet, and there were plenty of staff available to help with checked baggage.

Security clearance was smooth at Terminal 4, thanks to the new technology that eliminates the need to remove items from hand luggage.

Onboard, passengers received a friendly greeting from Charlie and were introduced to the Bonza legends – the cabin crew who were smartly dressed in purple or grey jackets and white t-shirts with white runners.

The seats were surprisingly roomy, with more legroom and width compared to a recent competitor’s flight. The adjustable headrests provided comfort for all heights. USB charging and power points were available at all seats, making it easy to stay connected. Bonza legends were friendly and helpful, assisting passengers with the app and their luggage.

Food and drinks were ordered through the Bonza app or by scanning a QR code, with payment made by credit card only. Onboard food and beverage options primarily consisted of locally sourced products that supported small businesses and initiatives such as veteran affairs and people living with disabilities.

Entertainment options included a selection of podcasts, behind-the-scenes Bonza videos, and short videos via Creative Live, as well as games and literature for younger guests.

Overall, the experience of flying with Bonza was surprisingly excellent for a low-cost airline. From the friendly service from all staff to the onboard comfort, it was a fantastic experience.
