Turn a Short Break into a Great Escape

With a quarter of the year already done and dusted, Easter is often the first time in the New Year that people get a chance to take a break and catch up with their loved ones. Now is the time to make the most of the extra day off by taking a road trip or domestic flight to a nearby location that you’ve been meaning to explore. No matter what kind of experience or holiday you’re craving, the perfect destination could be right on your doorstep.

It’s not too late to plan an Easter long weekend getaway with these handy suggestions from our personal travel managers.

    Families – entertainment playground

The Gold Coast offers something to suit almost all ages and is perfect for families. If you are looking for a low-key day on the beach, you are guaranteed to find the perfect spot along the coast’s white sands.

Thrill-seeking kids, as well as those young at heart, can choose from rides at Dreamworld, Warner Bros. Movie World, Wet and Wild and Sea World.

Animal lovers and aspiring zoologists can also get up close to Australian wildlife at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. This sanctuary hosts daily shows and educational activities, and who knows, you may even get the opportunity to take a selfie with some of Australia’s most cuddliest animals.

    Couples – city vs country

    Mudgee Region

Just a few hours outside of Sydney lies the charming country town of Mudgee where you and your partner can spend the weekend wandering around vineyards tasting local blends, discovering some of Australia’s rural history or exploring quaint shops whilst meeting the locals.

Take your long weekend to new heights experiencing a birds-eye view of Mudgee Valley from a hot air balloon or helicopter with that someone special. Alternatively, enjoy some much needed R ‘n’ R putting your feet up at any of the town’s amazing accommodation options. From working farms and country homesteads to bed and breakfasts and luxurious properties, Mudgee offers something to suit all tastes and budgets.

    Auckland

A quick hop across the Tasman to Auckland is the solution for anyone looking for a change of scenery or an international travel fix. Pack a picnic and take a walk through the Auckland’s Botanic Gardens, or head to Moustache Milk and Cookie Bar for the perfect sweet treat.

The harbour city offers an array of activities minus the hustle and bustle of similarly sized cities.

Prepare yourself for coastal walks, sunset cruises, water sports, boutique shops and an emerging bar and dining scene. Auckland’s night markets which are held in eight different locations across the city are not to be missed! Satisfy your appetite tasting authentic street snacks and delicacies from around the world, and be sure to check out the fashion, arts and crafts stalls as well as live entertainment.

    Singles – coastal escapes

    The Great Ocean Road

Grab your friends and head out on the open road for a road trip like no other. Explore what is commonly regarded as one of the world’s most scenic coastal touring routes spanning 243kms along Victoria’s southwest coastline. Discover scenic vistas and spectacular landmarks like that of the Twelve Apostles and Bells Beach.

Alternatively, if you’re not a navigating pro and dread spending hours behind the wheel, let AAT Kings do all the driving for you with their guided holidays of the region. Here you can sit back, and relax in between stops visiting Lorne, Apollo Bay and Loch Ard.

    Jervis Bay

Only three hours from Sydney, Jervis Bay offers a range of activities that will keep you busy from morning to night. Diving or snorkel enthusiasts can immerse themselves in the crystal clear waters surrounding the Jervis Bay Marine Park and Booderee National Park.

Jervis Bay is easy to get around so why not rent a bicycle or take to the water and enjoy stand-up paddle boarding or an eco cruise.
