    Celebrate Negroni Week at Ovolo

    Ovolo hotels will celebrate Negroni Week from Monday 14 September until Sunday 20 September 2020. With travel currently limited, your tastebuds can satiate your wanderlust wishes with the global flavours of Ovolo’s unique restaurants ‘Up in Smoke’ Negroni menu.

    Serving up six specialty smoked Negronis from championed Ovolo bars across Australia and Hong Kong, each spirited rendition of the much-loved Italian cocktail will be available for guests to sip and savour for AUD$18 whether in Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane or Hong Kong.

    In Australia, $1 from every ‘Up in Smoke’ Negroni purchased will be donated to Negroni Week’s charity partner, Help Out Hospo, drink in support of the Australian hospitality industry and workers in need.

    Australia’s first Fairmont Hotel to open in Port Douglas

    The Fairmont Port Douglas is set to open in Far North Queensland in 2023. Set on the edge of two UNESCO World Heritage sites – the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest – the hotel has been sustainably designed to give back to the environment.

    Fairmont Port Douglas will boast 253 glamorous rooms, several restaurants and bars, a decadent day spa, a treetop walk and panoramic conference and wedding facilities, all designed around resort-style pools and built to blend seamlessly with nature. From the organic architecture to copious green spaces and natural light, the resort brings nature close, with butterfly nets above the children’s swimming pool, an intimate lobby inspired by birds’ nests and verdant tropical gardens.

    The hotel is also looking to work with the local Kuku Yalanji community, the traditional owners of the land, to provide Indigenous Welcome to Culture and Smoking Ceremonies for special events. The Fairmont Spa will also offer treatments using local ingredients to help guests immerse in the culture of the destination.

    The first hotel in the region to achieve Ecotourism Australia’s Eco Destination Certificate, the hotel has been recognized for its strong environmental credentials, winning the Communities & Culture Award at the Sustainable Destinations Awards in March 2020, even before opening.

    The coastal town of Port Douglas is located just one hour’s drive from Cairns and is ideal for snorkelling and diving amongst colourful corals, learning about Australia’s Indigenous history, walking through the oldest living rainforest in the world, immersing themselves in nature, while still enjoying a cosmopolitan nightlife all on their doorstep.

    Photographer, Kate Branch launches 40 Years around the sun

    Photographer, Kate Branch, has found a novel way of celebrating her upcoming 40th birthday. She has created a visual compilation of her favourite sunrises and sunsets from around the globe. The video art project, entitled 40 Years Around The Sun, features 40 photographs in total, all captured via her Leica camera. The piece will be donated to the Wikimedia Commons Project, so that anyone, anywhere in the world, will be able to access and utilise these photos freely.

    Although international travel is off the cards, Kate will bring to life her old travel memories with this selection of her best photographic work.

    The video begins with her first sunset photo captured in Assisi, Italy, with a disposable camera when she was 18.

    The video of Kate’s photographic work is a COVID-19 friendly keepsake that reminds us of our global connection through the sun.

    She said, “In my life to date, I have been lucky enough to bear witness to 14,600 sunrises and sunsets. As a professional photographer, I have always had a huge fascination for this burning bright orb.”

    Kate Branch is a life-long photographer and travel lover who currently resides in Mosman, Sydney, with her husband and two children. She holds two University degrees, a Bachelor (BFA) of Fine Art, of which she majored in Photography, and a Master (MA) of Art Therapy (Fine Art and Psychodynamics).
