My love of travel started very early (when I was three)! My family was posted twice to the United Kingdom during my father’s flying career, when he was with Qantas. I’ve been privileged to travel to many destinations over the years, and I love to share the benefit of my experiences with my clients.
In 2009, my husband and I started our own travel company, Admiral Travel, in the beautiful coastal town of Port Macquarie, on the Mid-north Coast of NSW. We specialised in cruise voyages as well as gourmet wine and food tours. We soon found that running a business in a fixed place was very limiting. Since December 2010, I have run a successful virtual travel office with the support of TravelManagers Australia. Having the freedom of mobility allows me to catch up with my clients at a time and place to suit.
I have clients from all over Australia, as well as on the Mid-north Coast – from Taree, to Laurieton to Kempsey (including Port Macquarie, of course) and surrounding areas.
I have seen some amazing sights around the world: from Venice’s ancient canals to the modern art of the Guggenheim Museum in New York, and the quirky Gaudi buildings in Barcelona.
My first cruise voyage, in 2005, was aboard Holland America’s Maasdam. I was fearful about becoming sea sick, so we chose a cruise which started in the St Lawrence River in Quebec, Canada. We boarded in Montreal, and disembarked in Boston. I fell in love with the idea of a ‘travelling resort’: being transported to a new destination each day, with all our meals, accommodation and entertainment thrown in (and someone to make the beds)! I was hooked. The following year we cruised from Miami to Barcelona aboard Royal Caribbean International’s Voyager of the Seas. Since then I have cruised extensively around the world, including 3 river cruises.
When I am not cruising, I enjoy visiting different cities around the world, experiencing the culture and vibrancy on offer. I always try to find local experiences so that I get a real flavour of the place. Public transport is usually a great way to get around.
Theme parks are another of my loves: I’ve visited each of the Disney parks at least once – except Japan and Shanghai – as well as Universal Studios in LA and Singapore.
In Europe, I find it hard to pick a favourite country or destination as each has its own style. France, Italy and Spain are my favourite three. However, one of my favourite places is Sicily, an island off the ‘toe’ of Italy. The abundance of Greek antiquities, the amazing scenery and food make this a special place. If you’ve ‘done’ Italy, be prepared to be wowed by Sicily!
In Asia, I love Singapore, Hong Kong and Taipei – currently these are my favourite Asian cities that I’ve visited. For history, culture and food, each of these cities has a great deal to offer. All are relatively clean and have plenty of English signage. While English is not widely spoken in Taiwan, it is not difficult to make yourself understood. Further afield, Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam is a vibrant, culturally-rich city. It’s really hard to pick a favourite though.
Fabric and craft shopping in many cities is a fine art – one that I would love to introduce you to. You won’t be disappointed with your purchases!
Of course, any destination that includes a Disney Theme Park is very high on my list!
Cruises, both ocean and river, are my passion and specialty. As a Cruiseco member, I have access to the best deals for you at the best prices, as well as exclusive charters like the music cruises.
As a new addition to my business, I am offering small-group escorted tours around the world which combine my love of travel and crafts and fabric arts. Tours planned include Paducah Quilt Festival (USA), Houston Quilt Festival (USA), Singapore and Taiwan (touring and fabric shopping). Future projects are tours to the UK and Dubai (quilt festivals).
Food and wine also play a big part in my life. I have special places to suggest for you to have an amazing gourmet experience.
If I am away travelling, you have peace of mind knowing your travel plans are in safe hands – I am contactable just about anywhere in the world, and I have trusted colleagues who look after my business while I’m away learning about new destinations.
