Long Weekend Getaways

Long Weekend Getaways

If you are like me, and most of Australia, you see how you can take advantage of the numerous long weekends offered throughout the year and try to plan a short getaway. Throughout 2019 I had the pleasure of taking several short trips and figured I should share some ideas to help you plan an epic year of holidays- without taking off heaps of time from work.

TIMOR-LESTE

This beautiful country is only a 90 minute flight from Darwin and offers everything you need for a short break. Whether you like to relax on a beach, snorkel or dive in epic waters, hike in the mountains or learn about the incredible history of the Timorese, this destination is perfect for those who want a little bit of everything. It’s recommend a minimum of 3-4 nights although you could easily go for a week and not be bored.

Packages start as low as $699* per person for a 3 Day | 2 Night

(twin share and includes return airfare Darwin to Dili, accommodation, airport transfers and daily breakfast)

SHENZHEN, CHINA

Recently I visited this tech savvy city and was blown away.  Donghai Airlines offers direct flights from Darwin and I have to say I was fairly impressed with the service. This destination is fantastic for solo travellers, couples or families especially those that love technology or shopping! I spent 4 nights and 3 days exploring the various amusement parks, countless shopping centres (make sure you visit some of the tech malls) and eating the most delicous food. I was surprised by how immaculately clean and inexpensive the majority of things were such as taxis and meals. I would highly recommend this destination to those that want to see somewhere new and add another sticker to their passport.

SINGAPORE

One of my favourite Southeast Asia countries is Singapore and I love that it is only a 4.5 hour flight from Darwin with 2 different airlines to choose from.  While this destination is great for a short stay you could also spend a whole week and never get bored. There are dozens of activities you can do to fill the time such as a food tour in Chinatown, a walk through the Gardens by the Bay, enjoy the thrill of a ride at Universal Studios or simply jump on the Hop On Hop Off and explore all of Singapore.

Packages range depending on flight selection and hotel options as there are hundreds of options.

INDONESIA

I’m not talking about Bali- been there, done that. If you want to visit something new I recommend going to either Lombok, Nusa Penida or the Gili Islands. All of these locations allow you to fly direct from Darwin to Bali and are a short speed boat ride (or additional flight) to the desired destination. For all of these destinations you can enjoy gorgeous beaches and various water activities including diving and snorkeling. Even if you want to still visit Bali you can take day trips or spend half your time visiting one (or more) of these islands.

Packages range depending on flight selection and hotel options as there are hundreds of options.

The first half of 2020 has several long weekends so now all you have to do is start planning!
