About Devour Tours
Devour Tours began in the heart of historic Madrid, starting with a market tour that celebrated the city’s food culture and to support local family-run shops. From here it grew, and they now offer eighteen city tours over nine countries. With a logo that represents a line ticket for a traditional food market in Spain they position their tours as devouring food, literature, and culture. Devour has an impressive 4.8/5 average rating, and after spoiling ourselves with the Paris Ultimate Food Tour, we quickly understood why. From our expert tour guide to the delicious food, the history and culture, this experience truly lives up to its reputation.
Paris Ultimate Food Tour
We decided to undertake the Paris Ultimate Food Tour. Devour Tours commences each tour at a designated meeting point, rather than offering hotel pick-ups. Guests are responsible for making their own way to the starting location. We were the last to arrive, flustered, after the delay of dealing with peak hour on the Paris train system. As we rushed to join the group at our meeting point, David, our tour guide, welcomed us and set the tone with a calm and friendly demeanour. There was a small group gathered of 10 people including a family with two primary school aged children.
We began in Marais and David gave us an insight into modern history and the building of Paris as it stands today. We then departed, where we got to delve straight into the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about French cuisine, the croissant and baguette!
The Food
Over the next 3 hours we sampled 11 delicious dishes across 8 stops while weaving through the streets of Paris, making connections with others in our group, and admiring the beautiful sights along the way. From back-alley bazaar food courts, award winning artisan chocolatiers, gourmet cheese makers, a hidden café off the tourist trail and the best macarons I have ever eaten, this tour was jam-packed.
David elevated this experience, he was rich in knowledge and combined entertaining story telling with local history of all the stops we visited. David was inclusive and made sure everyone was engaged throughout the morning. Our tour had humour, history and wholesome foods that made this one of my highlights in Paris.
After indulging myself the finale of our tour was cheese and wine tasting at a local boutique wine house. I accidently knocked my glass of red wine over myself and the floor while trying to take some creative photographs with my phone. David and the staff couldn’t have been kinder or more helpful in getting me cleaned up. (Bonus, because of how natural the wine is made, it washed out of my clothes easily).
After drying myself off from wine-gate, we continued with cheese tasting. David then invited each person in the group to reflect on their favourite stops. Unsurprisingly, no one could choose just one. It was clear from the grins and enthusiastic goodbyes that this experience had left a lasting impression on every guest.
Final Thoughts:
If you’re looking for an engaging, insightful, and utterly delicious half-day in Paris, this is the tour. It’s ideal for food lovers, solo travellers, couples and anyone looking to experience Paris beyond the postcard views. The two children on our tour loved every moment, so families should also put this high on their list for something different to explore.
