If you’ve flown up the front of the plane lately, you’ll have noticed something: business class has quietly become the new first class. Sliding doors, cinema grade screens, beds longer than some hotel rooms, and in 2026, the world’s leading airlines are locked in the most exciting cabin arms race we’ve seen in a decade.
As someone who spends her days matching clients to the right seat on the right aircraft, I’ve been watching this year’s announcements very closely.
Here’s my guide to the standout business class products of 2026, the ones flying now, the ones arriving within months, and the future designs unveiled this year that are worth planning your 2027 travels around.
Qatar Airways’ Qsuite has worn the crown for the best part of a decade, and for good reason: it brought first class privacy, double beds and four-seat “quad” configurations to business class before anyone else. It remains a superb choice from Australia via Doha.
But the headline this year is the Qsuite Next Gen. Think wider seats, motorised sliding doors you close at the touch of a button, taller privacy walls, 4K OLED screens that swivel to open up a shared social space for couples and families, new face to face Companion Suites in the window pairs, Starlink Wi-Fi fast enough for video calls (although, let’s not), and 60W USB-C charging that will actually power your laptop. After delays to Boeing’s 777-9, Qatar has pivoted the debut to its newest A350-1000 deliveries from late 2026, with the 777-9 following from 2027.
My take for clients: if you’re travelling to Europe in the next year, the current Qsuite is still one of the finest ways to fly. If your dates fall in late 2026 or beyond, it’s worth asking me to watch the aircraft assignments for the new product.
All Nippon Airways set tongues wagging when it launched “The Room” which is a business class seat so wide it felt like a lounge sofa. From August 2026, its evolution, The Room FX, arrives on the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, offering 48 suites with alternating front and rear facing suites, sliding doors, a remarkable 41.5-inch seat width (the widest in its class), a 24-inch 4K monitor with Bluetooth audio, and wireless charging throughout.
The interesting twist? There’s no recline button. The backrest is pre-reclined like a living room sofa, and you simply flip the leg rest to create your fully flat bed. It’s a genuinely different philosophy, less machine, more living space, and for clients connecting through Tokyo to Europe or North America, it’s going to be one of the most talked about cabins of the year.
Cathay Pacific deserves a double mention this year, because the Hong Kong carrier is delivering on two fronts at once.
Flying right now is the Aria Suite, Cathay’s award winning business class, aboard fourteen retrofitted Boeing 777-300ERs, with the entire long-haul 777 fleet due to be completed by the end of 2027. Each aircraft carries 45 enclosed suites in a 1-2-1 layout, every one with direct aisle access, a sliding privacy door, customisable mood lighting and a 24-inch 4K screen (the largest ever on a Cathay aircraft) with Bluetooth pairing. The design is warm, calm and quietly luxurious, very much in Cathay’s understated style. Best of all for us, Melbourne and Sydney were among the first routes to receive it, alongside London, Frankfurt, Milan, Vancouver, San Francisco and, from this year, Los Angeles.
Then, arriving on Cathay’s regional A330s from late 2026, comes the Aria Studio. Inspired by the Aria Suite and sharing its design language, the Studio replaces the old 2-2-2 recliners with proper lie flat beds in a 1-2-1 layout. Every seat with direct aisle access, a 4K screen with Bluetooth pairing, USB-C and wireless charging. It means that shorter hop from Hong Kong onward around Asia will soon deliver genuine long haul comfort, so your whole journey, not just the overnight leg, feels first rate.
My insider tip: not every flight on the Australian routes carries the new Aria Suite. Cathay’s A350s still fly the older (though still great) reverse herringbone seat, and there are no plans yet to retrofit it with Aria. The easiest path is simply to have me confirm the aircraft on your specific flight before we ticket. It’s a small detail that makes a big difference to your journey.
United’s “Elevated 787” Dreamliner’s begin flying in 2026, initially between San Francisco, London and Singapore, making it very accessible for Australian travellers. The showpiece is the Polaris Studio: eight front row suites with 25% more space, an ottoman for a travelling companion, a 27-inch 4K OLED screen, caviar service and wine pairings, all backed by Starlink Wi-Fi. Even the standard Polaris suites gain sliding doors, 19 inch OLED screens and wireless charging.
And now for the news closest to home, because 2026’s most significant reveals point squarely at us.
Qantas Project Sunrise. In June, Qantas pulled the covers off its A350-1000ULR in Toulouse and confirmed the world’s first non stop Sydney to London flights from October 2027. The aircraft carries just 238 passengers (the lowest density A350-1000 anywhere) and the 52 Business suites. And a first for Qantas: a sliding privacy door, a 42-inch-wide suite with a 47-inch privacy wall, an 18-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth audio, generous work and dining surfaces, and a cushioned leather ottoman. Add the world’s first purpose built inflight Wellbeing Zone and a cabin designed around a decade of jetlag research. This is shaping up as the most anticipated launch in Australian aviation history.

Singapore Airlines’ new A350 business class. Singapore Airlines is preparing its most significant cabin upgrade in over a decade, sliding doors, higher walls, a forward facing seat with ottoman, and a design that looks more first class than business. It’s now due in early 2027 after certification delays, and here’s the exciting part: Sydney and London are widely tipped as the launch routes. When Singapore debuts a flagship, Australia is usually first in line.
Delta and Air Canada are also expected to unveil new flagship suites in a blaze of publicity late this year, flying from early 2027, so the momentum isn’t slowing.
Three threads run through everything above. Privacy doors are now the standard, not the luxury. Technology, Starlink Wi-Fi, OLED screens, wireless charging, is the quiet differentiator. Then we have Qantas’s jetlag science to lighting that syncs with your destination time zone, is the new frontier of premium travel.
