Memories of Florence, Italy - July 2017

My first evening in Florence, so I went to dinner and a concert, which was lovely. It was about a 15 minute walk back to my hotel, and as the streets were still full of people I felt safe to do so. A young fellow driving a Rickshaw, yes I am in Italy not China, offered me a ride back to the hotel for 15 euros. As it’s been a long hot day, and my feet were feeling quite tired I thought this sounded like a good idea. Well the poor guy had no idea where he was going. Despite having a map and the hotel address, he peddled round and round in circles for 45 minutes. The battery on his bike went completely flat and I was sitting up in the back like the queen waving and laughing at people as we went by. I felt so sorry for him I almost suggested that he get in the back for a while and let me pedal, but thought this might look a bit strange, particularly since I was wearing my good silk dress and dress shoes. We finally found the hotel, I paid him 20 euros for all his trouble and went inside. Really I could have walked. But it added to the adventure and I laughed so much I had tears running down my face. I won’t forget that night in a hurry!!
