Summer cruise holidays to the South Pacific and NZ

If you fancy a change from your usual beach holiday, why not consider a cruise holiday?   There are plenty of wonderful itineraries that depart from Sydney that give you enough time at sea to enjoy all the amazing facilities and activities available on board the ship before delivering you to one fabulous port after another.  Here are some of our favourite ports of call for a summer cruise holiday.

    Vanuatu: Mystery Island

This tiny, uninhabited islet at the southernmost end of the Vanuatu archipelago offers white sands fringed with palm trees and crystal-clear seas. As far as idyllic beach getaways are concerned, you’d struggle to find anywhere more idyllic: learn about local customs and culture on a village visit, take a glass-bottom boat tour or grab your snorkel gear and a beach towel and make yourself at home for the day.

    New Caledonia: Isle of Pines

One of New Caledonia’s most beloved outposts, you can explore the island’s turquoise bays and white sand beaches by bike or boat, look for friendly turtles, manta rays and dolphins in the lagoon or treat yourself to a day of paddleboarding, kayaking and snorkelling in the clear waters of Ora Bay.

New Zealand: Milford and Doubtful Sounds

The deep blue waters of the sounds are surrounded by towering mountains that are broken up by hanging valleys carved by ancient glaciers. They’re also home to an amazing array of wildlife, including penguins, seals and dolphins, which you may be able to spot from the deck of your ship. On a sunny day, the views are spectacular, and on a rainy day, the mountains become alive with hundreds of cascading waterfalls.

    New Zealand: Picton

This pretty seaside town is the gateway to the stunning Marlborough Sounds. Hike through native forest on the world-renowned Queen Charlotte Track, explore the tranquil waters by kayak, take a ride on a World War One-era steam train or sample some of the region’s finest produce, including wine, mussels, paua and salmon.

    New Zealand: Bay of Islands

Located in the far north of New Zealand’s North Island, this region offers a mix of historic sites, thrilling activities and spectacular scenery. Opt for a quiet day’s fishing in secluded bays, try your sandboarding skills on the Hokianga Harbour’s giant dunes or visit the glow worm caves and majestic ancient giants of the Puketi Kauri Forest. Take a walking tour of Russell: the charming seaside village that was New Zealand’s first capital city or learn about New Zealand’s colonial past at the historic Waitangi Treaty House.

    New Zealand: Napier

The charming Art Deco architecture of Napier forms a fabulous introduction to the Hawke’s Bay region, which is renowned for its mild, sunny climate and fine wines. Visits to a chocolate factory, boutique brewery or winery offer a chance to sample local produce, or you can meet some of the locals at the city’s National Aquarium or Cape Kidnappers’ gannet colony.
