Have a drink
Prague prides itself on the ability to brew brilliant beer, considering their local beers as national treasures. There are loads of beer varieties on offer with one of the most popular being Gambrinus – which is named after a legendary King Flanders and his capacity to brew delicious beer. Tell the time
The astronomical clock fixed to the Old Town Hall is a Prague icon, attracting crowds since 1410. The clock has three distinct features; an astronomical dial, the walk of the apostles and a calendar dial. The figures of the apostles are presented in doorways above the clock with another four animated figures flanking the clock one of which is a skeleton, representing death, who strikes the bell on the hour, a haunting reminder that time presses on. The dial is unique in itself, with the stationary background representing the Earth and and the smaller outer ring detailing the different signs of the zodiac.
Greet some unfamiliar faces
Prague is rich in medieval monuments, including the spectacular Vyšehrad Citadel and a wealth of medieval effigies. The relics are scattered throughout the city, but the majority are centralized around Stare Mesto’s famous medieval Charles Bridge – where 30 statues of saints, royalty, soldiers, priests and animals guard the entrance. If these sculptures aren’t enough of a reason to visit in themselves, the bridge offers stunning views of Prague Castle which the Guinness Book of Records lists as the largest ancient castle in the world and was once the residence of the Kings of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperors.
