Amsterdam – a city famous for its canals, unique nightlife and museums – can be conquered in a day (with a little guidance from our personal travel managers of course!).

    Getting Around

Amsterdam is incredibly easy to explore. Whilst it’s known as being a “walkable city”, cycling is the transport of choice for the locals – why not join in and hire a bike for the day? They’re cheap, efficient and fun.

    What to eat and drink

You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out and about in Amsterdam. If you want to sample local delicacies, you can’t go past these culinary experiences:

    Food

    • Immerse yourself in the ultimate cheese experience at De Kaaskamer van
    • Get your hands on a ‘Stroopwafel’, the most popular pastry of The Netherlands
    • Munch on a ‘Bitterballen’ which can be ordered in almost every café and bar and goes perfectly with a thirst quenching beer

    Drink

    • NJOY Cocktailbar offers a wide range of delicious drinks made by some of Europe’s best mixologists, the menu is based on different ‘personalities’ such as ‘The Alchemist’, ‘The Trendsetter’ and ‘The Dreamer’.
    • Quench your thirst with a beer at Skek. This unique student-run café and bar is housed across two historic 16th-century buildings and is located Situated on Amsterdam’s oldest street, Zeedijk.
    • Relax and enjoy a cup of coffee at Hofje van Wijs, a coffee and tea house which has been running since 1792.

    What to see and do

Start your day by visiting one of the many historical museums, such as the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum and Anne Frank House. To avoid long lines, purchase your tickets online before you go and try to get in before 11am to miss the crowds.

After taking in the history of the museums, take to your bike to explore the little streets of this beautiful city and wander into the many tiny bakeries and eclectic shops.

Cruise down one of the city’s 165 canals, or immerse yourself in fields of tulips at the Bloemenmarkt, the world’s only floating flower market which lines the Singel canal with colourful flower stalls.

For an afternoon snack, grab a Stroopwafel and sit amongst nature in any of Amsterdam’s 30 parks, such as the 47 acre Vondelpark.

Cap your day off with a visit to De Pjip, a bohemian neighbourhood to the south of the city centre, and join the cool crowd in any of the local shops, bars, cafés and galleries.
