East Coast Canada & Nova Scotia

There is something really magical about the Fall Season in this region. Admittedly this is a cooler climate itinerary, however the breathtaking countryside throughout the East Coast of Canada and down to New York will take your breathe away at this time of year. The peak time for this season is from September through till mid October, during this time the gorgeous foliage of the maple trees creates a kaleidoscope of colours from bright golds to muted reds. My favourite places to visit are Quebec City with a must see trip to Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré cathedral and a horse and cart ride around the old walls of the city is a delight! It is truly a step back in time visiting the quaint villages with their lighthouses and unique architecture, and spectacular scenery of fjords to rival those in Norway and the warm welcome of the local people. The journey would not be complete without a visit to the Anne of Green Gables house and also a visit to Halifax Titanic memorial cemetery where the victims of the tragic disaster have been laid to rest in a special area of remembrance.

New York & Boston

What can I say about New York but simply….Wow! I hold this city as my absolute favourite city in the world! Its bustling metropolis spanning from one end of Manhattan to the other, there is so much to see and do, I think most people don’t give it the time needed to explore that it truly deserves. My first visit to New York I was truly gobsmacked at the enormity of how much has been packed into one small island, the history, the architecture, the museums and just the way that everyone goes about their business in such a diverse environment are just awe inspiring. Not to mention the stunning hotels, the amazing shopping and the food. My Kodak moment was a harbour cruise right around from the Hudson to the East river and returning to the sights of the skyscrapers by night while listening to Alicia Keys version of New York! Travelling north to Boston by Amtrak is an amazing treat going through gorgeous seaside areas such as Providence will always be a stand out for me and Boston itself is a fabulous enriching city steeped in history.

Alaska

The natural beauty of Alaska is stunning, it is an environment that we, as Australians would never get to experience unless you visit this rugged but beautiful region. Taking a Celebrity cruise through this stunning part of the world was a bucket list trip for me. The highlight was our visit by floatplane to Taku Glacier Lodge for an Alaskan salmon bake, with the quaint little log cabin as our hosts prepared a sumptuous homemade meal topped with the most fresh salmon cooked on the open BBQ I think I have ever eaten. With the Taku Glacier as our view for the day right across the water and a spectacular visit by two black bears sauntering into the camp after getting the scent of the BBQ, I was amazed to find these majestic creatures to be very timid. This is truly an amazing destination that I would love to return to to further explore everything that it has to offer.
