5 BucketList Festivals Worth Travelling the World For

Travel is often about visiting iconic landmarks like the Colosseum or the Pantheon.  But what if your next adventure wasn’t just about the sights — what if it was about immersing yourself in the heart of local customs, colors, sounds, and tastes?

Here are five unforgettable festivals that may be perfect for your next adventure

1. Venice Carnival — 7 to 17 February 2026

Dating back to 1162, the Venice Carnival transforms the city into a one big stage filled with masked revelers and elaborate costumes. Unlike traditional parades, the spectacle is everywhere you look — from narrow alleyways to piazzas and bridges.  It is mystery, tradition, and opulence. A feast for the senses and a photographer’s dream.

2. Golden Eagle Festival, Mongolia — 3 to 4 October 2026

Though relatively new (founded in 2000), this festival celebrates an ancient tradition of  eagle hunting by the Kazakh people. Recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, it raises awareness and encourages younger generations to preserve this remarkable practice. For photographers and culture enthusiasts,  it offers breathtaking displays of skill and deep cultural meaning.

3. La Tomatina, Buñol, Spain — 26 August 2026

Pure, messy fun! What started as a local dispute centuries ago has evolved into the world’s largest and most colorful food fight. After a slippery pole-climbing contest, the streets erupt in a chaotic, tomato-throwing frenzy as truckloads of overripe tomatoes are delivered to the streets.

4. Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos), Mexico — 2 November 2026

Far from somber, this UNESCO-recognized festival is a colourful celebration of life. It is believed that on this day, the veil between the living and the dead lifts, allowing loved ones who have passed to visit. Families create colorful shrines adorned with marigolds, photographs, and offerings of favorite foods to welcome the spirits. Parades and festivals fill the streets as communities come together to honor and celebrate these cherished visits.

5. Holi, India — 4 March 2026

Known as the Festival of Colours, Holi marks the arrival of spring with a blast of powdered paints, water balloons, music, and dance. It’s a joyous, messy celebration where everyone is invited to be a part — so wear your oldest clothes and prepare to be splashed from head to toe!

If these festivals have inspired you to join the celebration, now is the perfect time to start planning. Many events sell out months in advance, and having insider access can make all the difference in creating a truly memorable experience.
