Revelstoke, BC Canada

Revelstoke, BC Canada

Revelstoke, BC Canada may be a Ski mountain you are not yet familiar with. You would be forgiven as it is still in its early days, with expansion flagged for the future.

It is often boasted that Revy, as it is affectionately known to the locals, boasts the greatest vertical in North America, so it is definitely not for the faint-hearted.  Although there are options for all abilities, it is a mountain that would be most enjoyed by the intermediate to advanced skier (45.5% intermediate and 47.5% advanced Terrain).

Revelstoke Mountain can be reached by flying into either Kelowna or Kamloops airport. It is a great mountain to combine with Big White Silver Star or Sun Peaks as a warm-up.

Besides the Gondola, there are currently only 2 chairlifts (Stay tuned though, the mountain is growing with the Resort planning to expand to up to 20 lifts and over 100 Runs.) But this is all the mountain needs to be able to access all of the awesome terrain. Professional guides are on offer and this is highly recommended to get the best experience out of the mountain.

If you are looking for the heart of Revy, follow the line of skiers and boarders hiking to the North Bowl and Greely Bowl. You will be paid back in dividends for your hard work with amazing powder bowls. However, if hiking is not your thing, then rest assured there are lots of runs to enjoy directly off the lifts – both groomers, moguls and some awesome tree runs.

Did I mention the snow? Revy on average receives 9-14metres! Want to try something different?  Revy offers Heli Ski, Cat Ski and Backcountry tours too, all direct from your Hotel Base at Sutton Place.

Sutton Place is the standout accommodation choice. Besides being the only hotel on snow accommodation, their luxury 1, 2  and 3 bedroom apartments are impressive. The hotel is complete with Communal Spas, a heated pool, evening wine and cheese, and let’s not forget Ski Valet!  What impresses most is the staff though- It is obvious they enjoy where they are and what they do!

The town of Revelstoke is easy to reach via the Resort shuttle, so for the more budget-conscious alternative accommodation choices can be found here from Hostels to hotels,  along with all types of shopping and many dining choices, our favourites being Chubby Funsters and The Village Idiot.

Although the mountain village itself is small, or quaint as the locals prefer,  having only 1 restaurant, a bar and a  coffee shop which also doubles as a very small boutique supermarket, the atmosphere is big fun and friendly.

From the foyer of Sutton Place, there is not too far to go to reach the lifts. The Gondola is literally only 10 metres from the hotel door. No need to rush though, as most days there is no queue to speak of.  The Gondola will take you on a ride thru the clouds to the top of the mountain where you will be welcomed to a view above the clouds, surrounded by pristine snow and mountain peaks – What more could you want!
