I am an epic traveller and drawn to the less crowded locations of the world, loving to explore away from the beaten track. I find isolated and desolate landscapes mesmerising.
I am a polar travel specialist, having explored Antarctica twice and South Georgia, the high Arctic 3 times, including Svalbard, Iceland, Greenland, the Canadian Arctic and I have successfully traversed the Northwest Passage from Nuuk to Nome.
The Gobi Desert of Mongolia, the rich red dunes of the Namib Desert, the silence of the Atacama, that’s my scene.
The spirituality of India, the diversity of the landscapes and peoples of the South American continent, the majesty of wildlife encounters in Africa – these are the experiences I love.
I am equally comfortable though, strolling through the narrow cobble-stoned streets of medieval villages in Europe, driving through the rolling green hills of the United Kingdom, being crammed into a crowded bus on the busy streets of Buenos Aires or enjoying performances in opulent opera houses.
I’m not a good tourist, but can’t resist visiting iconic sights of ancient cities or modern marvels.
