Climb on the roof for an unforgettable experience at Adelaide Oval, or head out to Glenelg and jump aboard the Adelaide Ocean Safari and chase the South Australian sunset with the local dolphins.
Your South Australian outback journey begins starting with a leisurely drive which takes you along amazing Spencer Gulf. Once in Port Augusta, it’s a must to visit the “Time Tunnel” at Wadlata Outback Centre which isn’t any old tourist centre. Take a 360 degree view from the water tower lookout and take a hike to the Matthew Flinders Red Cliffs Lookout.
For the next few days, you will be exploring the amazing Flinders Ranges and South Australia outback. The Flinders Ranges are one of the oldest mountains on earth with many significant geological sites with excellent bush walking trails, an abundance of wildlife, and dense vegetation. It’s some of the most stunning landscapes you will see.
Rawnsley Park Station offers a great range of exploration trips including a 4WD to the best view to watch the sunset over the Flinders. Experience how a merino sheep station operates or treat yourself with a scenic flight to fully understand the Flinders Ranges landscape or take a heli-hike into the Chace Ranges.
Today you will travel back towards Adelaide via Clare Valley, the “heart of Australian riesling”. Join the Riesling Train which is an easy 35km bike ride among the vines and cellar doors, restaurants, and cafes. Don’t forget to stop by the first winery of the region; Sevenhill Cellars which was established in 1851 and is now regarded for its premium table wines.
Before getting back to Adelaide take a side trip to the Barossa Valley where you will find some of the world’s most acclaimed vineyards including Penfolds, Jacobs Creek, Seppeltsfield and many more. Fancy yourself a sweet tooth? Make sure to stop by The Barossa Chocolate Company, with artisan chocolate and ice cream.
Time to head home, but before you do swing by Haigh’s Chocolates at 34 King William Street which was their first shop to open in May 1915.
