Arrive into Christchurch and collection your car hire. Make your way to your accommodation and start by exploring the vibrant city that is Christchurch straight away.
After a relaxing morning you will travel north to the coastal town of Kaikoura. You’ll have a 2-night stay to soak up the sea air and unwind. This region offers a diverse geography hugging the coastline and being sheltered under the mountain range. Don’t forget to sample some of the local seafood, Kaikoura has an abundance of crayfish.
This morning you venture out on to the Pacific Ocean with Whale Watch Kaikoura. Not far from shore you’ll start to see various marine life including seals, albatross, hector dolphins, sperm and humpback whales and orcas.
Heading north west today you’ll arrive into Nelson. On the drive you’ll pass through Blenheim, maybe stop at one of the wineries for lunch. Marlborough is world famous for its wines.
It’s an early start today with Wilsons Abel Tasman transferring you by coach out to the Abel Tasman National Park. Once in the park you’ll travel in style and comfort aboard the Vista Cruise into Tonga Island Marine Reserve. Pause to view the antics at Tonga Island Seal Colony then land at historic Tonga Quarry Beach. Walk over a forested saddle and around the Bark Bay waterfall trail. Take some extra time to relax on the golden sands at Bark Bay beach before you continue to picturesque Medlands Beach. You’ll head back to Nelson and be dropped at your accommodation in the late afternoon.
Time to head back south back towards Christchurch. Taking the inland route you’ll spend the last night of your trip in the alpine village of Hanmer Springs. A visit isn’t complete without a soak in the Hanmer Springs Thermal Spring pools. Featuring relaxing rock pools, soothing sulphur pools, an array of water jets and bubbles – at a range of temperatures. This charming village offers a variety of cafes and restaurants to enjoy this evening.
The last day of your trip through the top of the South Island finishes on arrival back into Christchurch where you return your rental car and check in for your flight home.
