  • Regular cruising with a spirit of adventure, shore excursions in remote destinations and wildlife encounters

Some may not be familiar with what expedition cruising is. Some may be an expedition cruising connoisseur. And, some may prefer theirs with a little luxury. No matter if you’re a newcomer or a returning pioneer, expedition cruising is designed to take you to remote and natural destinations, teach you about wildlife and landscapes, and challenge your comfort zones, as you explore rarely seen corners of the globe. Your inner adventurer will come alive with polar plunging and kayaking with whales; and if you prefer to sit back on the observation deck and watch the icebreaker follow beluga whales, you can do that too.

Expedition cruising is small-ship adventures, making friends with like-minded people, learning about how and why icebergs are shaped the way they are, and listening to onboard lectures that teach you about unique ecosystems. It’s diving deep into the blue with certified expedition leaders, and it’s discovering your internal passions for wildlife, earth, science, sustainability and adventure.

So you can experience these gems of expedition cruising, we’ve picked four itineraries in Australia’s Northwest, Antarctica, South America and New Zealand. Plus you can receive exclusive TravelManagers bonus offers such as flights up to the value of $2,500 per person, complimentary five-star extension in Buenos Aires, $100 onboard credit per cabin, and complimentary bar tab and crew gratuities.

Learn more about expedition cruising destinations and wildlife encounters

Hundreds of Aussies head south each summer on small ship expedition cruises, either from Australia, from Invercargill at the southern tip of New Zealand or from Ushuaia at the southern tip of Argentina. The main season for Antarctic travel is from November to March, although some expeditions take place outside these months, especially to the sub-Antarctic region.

Whether your journey departs in South America or you want to add a pre or post extension package in South America, this bucket list will help you choose where to go. Soak up the unique culture of the 800 or so indigenous families that call Isla del Sol their island home, go whale watching off the coast of Florianopolis or join the beach bunnies on Rio’s Copacabana beach.

While both ends of the world share similar temperatures, the experiences and sights to be seen vary greatly. The style of vessel also plays a critical role in determining what you will see and the overall on board experience you will receive. Smaller ships are more nimble and can get closer to the shoreline. Larger ships can still visit the shoreline through the use of deployable zodiacs which are kept on board.
