Let’s face it – price is no barrier for a celebrity planning their Christmas vacation, yet while the world is their oyster there are some destinations they keep going back to each year.
So we thought we’d put together a shortlist of top celebrity Christmas holiday destinations to help you plan your own star-studded break.
You may not be able to book a room in the same hotel, but even celebrities enjoy discovering a local hangout or boutique, so you might get lucky at some point.

Top five destinations to celeb spot
The Coastal resorts of Mexico are a hot favourite of many celebrities craving the classic beach holiday. The luxurious Las Ventanas resort in San Jose Del Cabo has attracted the likes of J Lo, Leonardo DiCaprio, Adam Sandler and Charlize Theron over the past few years.
The Maldives is a popular and exotic choice for celebrities. Prince William and Kate Middleton have shown an interest in the tiny Indian Ocean island nation and Ronan Keating and his partner Storm Uechtritz recently holidayed there. Meanwhile, the Caribbean island of Barbados lures the likes of Oprah year in, year out.
For those celebs with a penchant for higher altitudes and cooler climates at Christmas, you can’t go past the Swiss Alps or France. Many a Bond star and European royalty have been spotted with cognac in hand by a log fire when not on the slopes at Gstaad and St Moritz or Courchevel in France. Whistler, Canada and Aspen in the US are favourite ski destinations for some of our favourite Hollywood actors.
UK celeb foodie haunts
The many Michelin star restaurants and luxury hotels of London are a canny way to spot a celeb this holiday season. The famed Dinner by Heston Blumenthal in Knightsbridge is a good place to start, as is Momo on Saville Row, which is a favourite holiday eatery with the likes of Shakira. The Ivy is a hallowed London noshery for A-listers including the Beckhams and Tom Cruise. Upmarket hotels bars such as the Savoy or Claridge’s are also classic celebrity territory.
Christmas in Hollywood Hills
A savvy way to celebrity sightsee this Christmas is to head to Los Angeles and make a bee-line for Mr Greentrees, a Christmas tree lot in West Hollywood frequented by celebrity families on the hunt for the perfect Christmas tree, or else you could try Santa’s Cottage at The Grove where celebrities get their kids Santa photos taken (for a touch of normality). There is also Starbucks in The Pacific Palisades where celebrities go for a coffee break while Christmas shopping. Finally, you can’t go past Brentwood Country Mart for celebrities on the search for unique stocking fillers.
New York, New York!
While most celebrities leave home during the holidays, there are some who still stay local and the magic of New York is hard to beat at Christmas (even for a jaded celebrity). Head to the iconic Rockerfeller Center, where you may just spot Sarah Jessica Parker with kids in tow, Julianne Moore or even Robert De Niro. From the famous Rockerfeller Christmas tree to the outdoor ice-skating rink, the whole area transforms into a winter wonderland.
We hope we’ve given you some inspiration to help plan that celebrity-studded Christmas break abroad. Happy celeb-spotting!
P.S. There are reports Prince William is heading to China early January 2015 (so watch this space).
