    Vancouver - a coffee lover's haven

    Vancouver - a coffee lover's haven

    Share Share Comments comments

No longer British Columbia’s best-kept secret, Vancouver is regularly listed as one of the world’s ‘top ten best cities’ for coffee.

Surrounded by mountains with a flourishing art and music scene, coffee aficionados have fallen in love with this Canadian city’s artisan brewing techniques, fair trade organic coffee and independent cafes.

We asked our personal travel managers for their top java recommendations in this coffee mecca.

    1. Kafka’s Coffee

Situated on the Main Street of Vancouver, Kafka’s is a one stop shop for coffee and art. Its walls feature art installations and exhibitions, which regularly attract up to 100 people on opening days. Expect single-origin brews and specially modified espresso – the staff can show you a map pointing out the exact location of where each bean was sourced.

    Location: 2525 Main Street

     2. 49th Parallel Coffee Roasters

A permanent fixture on the Vancouver coffee scene, 49th Parallel Coffee Roasters visit each of their supply farms personally. This regular communication results in sustainability for growers, a better product for customers and highly knowledgeable staff. With two locations in Vancouver, 49th Parallel test their coffee at the time of purchase and during roasting at their specially designed Burnaby lab to ensure you get the ultimate blend.

Location: 2902 Main Street and 2198 West 4th Avenue

     3. Revolver Coffee

Each week Revolver’s coffee menu is ‘cupped’, a process whereby the taste and aroma of brewed coffee is tested and held to an industry standard. Beans that don’t make the cut will be replaced with higher scoring options. Passionate about their testing options, customers can try a ‘taste flight’, which involves three different beans all brewed in the same way.

    Location: 325 Cambie Street

    4. Matchstick Coffee

An emphasis on the delivery of handcrafted preparation and single-origin coffees makes Matchstick Coffee on 15th Avenue a must-stop on your coffee pilgrimage to Vancouver. Expect Latin American brews from the farthest reaches of Colombia, Costa Rica and Peru.

    Location: 213 E Georgia Street and 639 E 15th Avenue

    5. Caffè Artigiano

Don’t be perturbed by the line out the front; It moves quickly and the award-winning baristas are well worth the wait. Caffè Artigiano, which directly translates to ‘artisan coffee’, is an Italian-themed coffeehouse dedicated to serving Vancouverites the perfect cuppa since opening in 2000.

Location: 13 locations in and around Vancouver
