If you are in New Orleans you can head to Pat O’Brien’s bar and order yourself a Hurricane. Or, how about you put some jazz on a playlist and make this one at home.
The Hurricane was created in the 1940s at Pat O’Brien’s bar in New Orleans. During World War II, rum was plentiful while whiskey was scarce, so bartenders used large amounts of rum, and the legendary cocktail was born.
Ready to make New Orleans’ most iconic cocktail, see below for the recipe.
Shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into a hurricane glass or tall glass with ice. Garnish with a cherry or a slice of orange.
