    Hurricane Cocktail

    Hurricane Cocktail

    Comments comments

If you are in New Orleans you can head to Pat O’Brien’s bar and order yourself a Hurricane. Or, how about you put some jazz on a playlist and make this one at home while you plan your trip to Louisiana.

The Hurricane was created in the 1940s at Pat O’Brien’s bar in New Orleans. During World War II, rum was plentiful while whiskey was scarce, so bartenders used large amounts of rum, and the legendary cocktail was born. The name for the drink came from the glass it’s served in that resembles a hurricane lamp and is the most popular drink with visitors in the French Quarter.

Ready to make New Orleans’ most iconic cocktail, see below for the recipe.

    Ingredients

    • 60 ml light rum
    • 60 ml dark rum
    • 60 ml passion fruit juice
    • 30 ml orange juice
    • 15 ml fresh lime juice
    • 1 tablespoon simple syrup
    • 1 tablespoon grenadine
    • Garnish with a slice of orange and a cherry

    Method

Shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into a hurricane glass or tall glass with ice. Garnish with a cherry and/or a slice of orange.

If you would like to be drinking this in New Orleans at a bar on Bourbon Street, talk to your personal travel manager about booking your trip to Louisiana.

This cocktail recipe contains alcohol and is intended for use by adults aged 18 years and over. Please drink responsibly and only if you meet the legal drinking age.
